cecilia azcarate compares hip hop icons to historic artworks

cecilia azcarate of the tumblr B4XBVI has generated a series of images that compare the uncanny relationship between pre-16th century artworks and famous hip hop stars of the present day. the portraits contrast the fashion, jewelery, tatoos, piercing and poses of the two genres with surprising results — they aren’t as dissimilar as one might imagine. dutch master works feature ornate gold necklaces and pendants, much like the ones worn by rapper 2 chainz, and body art drawn on a 13th century sculpture is congruous to YG’s neck tattoos. the analogies pose a humorous commentary on trends and popular culture in relationship to the past.
