‘smoke bomb 2’, 2011 by olaf breuning

swiss-born NYC-based artist olaf breuning presented his latest ‘smoke bomb’ artwork as part of the 39th edition contemporary art fair fiac, 2012. the work is a component of a short series of pieces created by capturing exploding pigment arranged along scaffolding. the installations represent breuning’s photographic technique of leaving the chaos of production within a frame – offering the audience a ‘behind-the-scenes’ perspective of the production. vibrant bursts of color are released from apertures fixed to horizontal poles, creating an immersive display of rainbow chroma and hue when the smoke bombs are detonated.
