complements is an ongoing series of multimedia portraits by the couple leta sobierajski and wade jeffree. the project explores their complementary relationship, highlighting their strengths in design along with an quirky brand of humor. complements pokes fun at the glut of cheesy couple photos honored by ‘listicles’ – the resulting portraits are indeed surreal, and occasionally quite suggestive.
while the project is ongoing through a tumblr page, a selection of the portraits has also been collected in a book produced by GF smith – designed by sobierajski and jeffree. the book includes dozens of vibrant photographic prints with a hand-embossed spine and back cover.
the cover is coated in googly eyes to mimic one of the first complements portraits, and the lay-flat binding allows each image to be admired without hassle of holding down the pages. each page is an 820gsm pageweight and feels very satisfying to touch. the book was entirely hand-crafted in hull, england, using the finest materials combined with the latest technology.
