fred torres collaborations has on display the first exhibition of rocker, actress and artist courtney love’s hand illustrated works in new york city. the solo show entitled ‘courtney love and she’s not even that pretty’ is a display of forty-five intimate portrays of dejected, doll-like women within the new york gallery space. in a convergence of colored pencil, watercolor, and pastel materials on paper, the rocker-artist has depicted sorrowful women in a jumble of thoughts and lyrics scrawled around each figure. love portrays her personal experiences and those of people close to her in each work. through her interest in femme fatale-like characters, love paints each protagonist in a manner which reflects a sense of loss, regret and rejection, barring her deepest insecurities to the gallery goer in gestural, painterly collection of psychological images.
