presented at art stage singapore 2013 by fost gallery is singaporean artist sookoon ang‘s ‘your love is like a chunk of gold’ artwork – a series of bread loaves with crystal growth. the work is an intersection of the real, the supernatural and science fiction. looking at the loaves as a familiar item, a comfort food; the spiky crystals – that replace the mold growth – render the familiar item foreign. the intervened food becomes a contradiction referencing the idea of comfort and pain side by side similar to the experiences of love and romance.

  • A sub Hirstian title – perhaps lost in translation – and an ill conceived description where ‘food becomes an oxymoron’. Either Fine Art ain’t what it used to be or Designboom could do better?
