cyril lancelin fills ligne roset store with an inflatable maze of golden arches for LDF 2018

on the occasion of london design festival, cyril lancelin and his studio town and concrete have filled the ligne roset westend furniture store with a large inflatable structure of repetitive golden arches. the structure is the result of two extruded, continuous lines, which in three dimensions create a complex environment similar to being in a maze.

part of the french artist‘s research on boundaries and partitions in architecture, the arches create passages and fillings and develop spatial conditions conducive to movement. softness and imperfections in the lines make the installation appear almost alive, moving together with the visitors as they stroll around the store.

the inflatable structure echoes the fabric of ligne roset’s togo sofa, slightly moving as the sofas do when the public sits on them. according to lancelin, the golden arches also refer to the typologies of doors and windows, ‘two primary architectural elements for construction.’
