cyril lancelin delimits spaces with the ‘knot’ installation

cyril lancelin’s studio town and concrete designed the ‘knot’ — an installation based on the trefoil knot, a primitive form of which inspired the artists to model a huge three-dimensional structure. the trefoil can be obtained by joining together the two ends of a common overhand knot, resulting in a knotted loop. several nodes have been juxtaposed, and a continuous and closed line connects them.

with this immersive installation cyril lancelin makes the exploration of different spaces separated by unusual boundaries possible. the pink color allows the work to be detached from its environment. its general volume is very easily identifiable by the presence of this colored mass. through this architectural experience, we learn about alternatives to simple partitions dividing spaces. this object could both the partition and the structure of a building. observing it, the visitor gets a new impression in each part — it is different inside, outside and from all angles.
