(in which the balance of power is constantly in flux) – his public work ‘obelisco transportable‘ is being exhibited at doris c. freedman plaza in NY’s central park through october 28. it is a 20-foot-tall, narrow, tapering object with a pyramidal top, and stands on a grassy platform on wheels, as though it has been uprooted from a previous location and made portable. a mobile landmark that one could potentially move anywhere to commemorate anything. damián ortega’s work is also on view in the group exhibitions escultura social: a new generation of art from mexico city at the museum of contemporary art in chicago through september 2 and ‘hidden in plain sight: contemporary photographs‘ from the collection at the metropolitan museum of art in NY through september 3. he has a solo show at london’s white cube through september 8, upcoming solo shows include ikon gallery in birmingham, england, from september 6 to october 20 and the daadgalerie in berlin from september 14 through november 3. see the interview
