damien hirst recently asked his instagram followers to send him questions for him to answer during the COVID-19 lockdown. true to his word, the british artist took time away from his latest series of cherry blossom paintings to respond to 98 questions as part of a video series, which lasted almost an hour. titled ‘on the psychiatrist’s couch’, the epic interview covers hirst’s work, old and new, and explores other aspects of the artist’s life, including his earliest memory and what era he would like to time-travel to.

 

 

 

the four part video series, which can be watched on damien hirst’s instagram account, offers details of the artist’s famous works including how many diamonds are embedded in ‘for the love of god’ — a platinum cast of an 18th-century human skull. hirst also explains where he got the ideas and inspiration for some of his most recognizable works, including his ‘medicine cabinet’ series. however, the artist did pass on the question ‘what would you dream collaboration be?’, saying that he’s ‘not that into’ working with others. see the first installment of the four part series above, and watch the next three videos on hirst’s instagram. see designboom’s archive of damien hirst’s work here.
