french artist daniel firman creates sculptures that suspend his subjects within a moment of vulnerability which, normally fleeting, becomes a permanent state of tension. frozen static in mid action, the sculptures remain frozen in anticipation of consequence.

this unease is clearly a theme of interest for firman as demonstrated by the contradictory nature of some of the titles of his works: ‘push-pull’, ‘scattering-gathering’, ‘autoreverse’.

firman’s work can currently be seen as part of the group show of contemporary french art ‘dérive’ curated by artist mathieu mercier at the fondation d’enterprise ricard in paris until the 16 november.
