david catá composes a musical track into the palm of his hand

artist david catá — best known for turning his own body into a canvas of artistic experience — shares ‘bajo mi piel’ (‘under my skin’), a musical track, video art piece and photographic series. the musical piece has been drawn from the artist’s photographic project with the same title, initiated in 2011, in which he literally placed photographs of his loved ones under the superficial skin of his hand. in this way, the skin becomes a metaphor and a symbol of the artist’s desire to keep the memory of these beloved people alive — a ritual to internalize them in his life.

during these weeks of confinement and isolation, catá has created a video art piece that forms a dialog with the musical composition. in the video, catá turns his own body into a violin that interprets the melody, with strings sewn to the palm of his hand. the seeds, which he planted previously beneath the superficial surface of his skin, begin to germinate, watered by his own memories.
