spanish artist dino valls dives deep into the human psyche with his series of portraits depicting nude women somewhere in between pain and beauty. suffering different conditions his subjects are captured in a series of hyperreal artworks that function like a puzzle, put together incorrectly.

in many of his works he shows a divided woman, the anatomy of which is often in focus, her different body parts exposed and disorganised. it is valls attempt to reflect on the characters’ inner-self, their fears and phobias, and their impact on her exterior, that conjures these abstractions. one girl is trapped in a doll house of unusual scenarios. another’s head is encased in a cabinet containing different beauty products. these fractured portraits are centered around a gaze of the characters that renders the viewer in an uncomfortable position.

born in 1959 in zaragoza, spain, since 1988, valls has explored the psychological condition through painting. in the early 90s, the artist began using egg tempera, inspired by the techniques of italian and flemish masters from the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries. valls explored the human psyche through a series of portraits which employed figurative techniques. with a degree in medicine and surgery valls has combined his studies with art to master the anatomy of his characters.
