for her latest project, alicja kozlowska creates embroidered felt everyday objects tucked away in drawers, in an attempt to showcase the diversity of people around her. dubbed ‘i.d.’, the series starts off with a woven piece of the artist’s own drawer, presenting a collection of ordinary, yet intimate items that reveal some of her characteristics. with this concept in mind, on her personal website kozlowska invites anyone who enjoys her art to participate actively in this embroidered endeavor.

drawing influence from a global view of individuality, the ‘i.d.’ series by alicja kozlowska takes into account the aspects that connect everyone regardless of age, profession, or nationality. ‘each one of us lives differently, looks different, but there are things that connect everyone around the world — undoubtedly, there are many common parts, universal for all the people,’ shares the polish artist. ‘I was looking for everyday items, and in a sense, intimate items, I wanted to show how different and how similar we are at the same time.’

‘everyone has a drawer for things needed immediately, although sometimes completely unnecessary,’ adds kozlowska. ‘it’s hard to get rid of them, they’ve always been there, often forever’. the project will take shape as a study of various drawers, interpreting different personalities and showing different parts of the world. the drawers will be crafted with many techniques, included in the term of the broadly understood ‘artistic fabric’, which will undoubtedly give them originality and emphasize the uniqueness of this field of art.

in order to participate in the ‘i.d.’ project, you just have to send a photo of your drawer to the artist, via the submission platform found on her site. all selected entries will be sewn by alicja kozlowska herself, and will become part of a larger final installation, that may be exhibited within modern art museums in the future.
