with a passion for rock music equalling his love of art, chinese creative DU kun brings together his favorite musicians, architectural compositions and natural wonders of the world in a series of painted oil portraits. carved into pagodas, confucian mausolea, buddhist temples and other traditional asian structures, the faces of china’s famous rockstars appear as majestic mountain and cliffs rising from the seas. roaring waterfalls, volcanic eruptions and lush landscaping are woven into the carefully painted compositions, each revealing meticulous details and hidden curiousities upon closer inspection.

the series titled ‘revels of the rock gods’ depicts a meeting point of architecture, nature and the human form, conceived together as a unique universe where tradition and the avant-garde, music and painting are adroitly melted together. the series is presented at tokyo’s mizuma art gallery from now until february 13, 2016.
