ENESS creates Forest Dancer illuminating arched entryway

As part of Quoz Arts Fest at Alserkal Avenue in Dubai, ENESS introduced Forest Dancer, a large-scale installation that extends from the interior gallery space to the facade of ‘Concrete.’ The nine-meter-tall temporary intervention reinterprets the existing architectural framework designed by OMA, incorporating a series of interlocking arches that establish a dynamic spatial composition. The structure plays with scale, perspective, and materiality, creating a transition between the built environment and the exhibition space within.

The installation features eight cascading arches with integrated patterns, including pixelated motifs and oversized 8-bit-style floral prints. These elements establish a dialogue between the digital aesthetic and the physical space, reinforcing the concept of adaptable and immersive architecture. ‘As artists, we work in many contexts—inside galleries and museums, in public realm and even creating small art pieces for the home. This approach of ‘art is everywhere’ means that we responded to the inspiring architecture by creating an artwork that is at once a conversation with the built form and an installation in its own right,’ said ENESS founder Nimrod Weis.

Forest Dancer exhibition features multisensory installations

The broader Forest Dancer exhibition extends beyond the facade installation, covering 600 sqm with interactive components. Central to the exhibition is an eight-meter-tall sculptural character, positioned within a series of immersive environments, including ‘Whispering Mountains and Stick Insects.’ These installations encourage visitor engagement through movement, light, and sound interactions. The dome-like form of Forest Dancer’s skirt incorporates flexible seating elements with LED components, designed to create a multisensory experience.

The exhibition is an extension of the FRAME Exhibition of the Year 2024-winning project, ‘Modern Guru and the Path to Artificial Happiness,’ responding to the curatorial theme ‘A Hut Holds a Thousand Friends.’ Art and technology studio ENESS explores the intersection of digital culture, communal spaces, and interactive design. Located within Alserkal Avenue, an established hub for contemporary art and design, ‘Forest Dancer’ served as a focal point for Quoz Arts Fest, which brings together 25 galleries and cultural spaces each year. The project continues to be exhibited internationally as part of ‘Modern Guru and the Path to Artificial Happiness,’ with installations in multiple countries.
