the latest serving of polar inertia features a series of photographs entitled ‘entropic membranes‘ by kimberly jones.

‘these images are developed from an intense interest in exploring areas littered with abandoned
and decaying man-made objects. the process began from a desire to seek out the narrative of
these long abandoned objects, and appreciate the aesthetics of the elements of their decay.

by photographing in certain locations consistently, what developed was not only a relationship
to the particular objects found in these areas but a sensitivity and appreciation of the changes
in the environment surrounding and slowly engulfing these objects. the work then became not
only about these objects standing alone for appreciation in their decayed state, but about their
interaction with their environment…

the chosen locations for exploration were around the shoreline of the salton sea and selected
areas around the san francisco bay. the images found in these locations were submerged in
water and in more advanced stages of decay.’ more
