evan hecox has completed a new collection of drawings evoked by the scenes of new york city and drawn upon old newspaper from the metropolis. the denver, colorado-based artist has recreated the feeling of exploring new york as a traveler, recalling the sights, sounds and impressions of the city in the exhibition of mixed-media works. as hecox had recently wandered through the streets of the city, he took pictures of the scenes with a vintage polaroid camera. hecox recounts this visit in fragments depicting store fronts, train trellises or weather vanes among many other urban sights by only the most poignant shapes as the artist studies his photos, bringing to the foreground the elements he wished to emphasize while the extra facets fade into antique newsprint.
