architectural plans are the formulas that organize space, sculpt mass, and dissect distances. every building designer, depending on their own distinct aesthetic, finds different ways to arrange the inner workings of the built environment. with this in mind, italian illustrator federico babina has realized 25 compositions that abstract the floor plans of some of the most well known architects in the world — both contemporary and historic. ‘ARCHIPLAN’ interprets the planimetric language of famous figures like zaha hadid, le corbusier, frank gehry and tadao ando, modeling their schemes as a series of architecturally illustrative labyrinths.

babina abstracts elements of asymmetry and symmetry, curved and straight lines, solids and voids, light and shadows — each which form a unique built environment. plans are like the signatures of architects and can reveal conceptual details about the artistic and aesthetic personality of its authors. through ‘ARCHIPLAN’, babina illustrates these architectural maps as dynamic labyrinths and abstract symbols, guiding the viewer through the movement of the space.

  • Postcards? Or wall-art? 🙂

  • Kahn’s plan needs a bit more refinement in my opinion.
Otherwise the collection is a great idea!

    Andrei says:
  • A wonderful series, compliment

    Hofer says:
  • Amazing. Are these real floor plans? If so I would love to have a link to the actual buildings. If not they are just cleaver designs.
