felipe pantone's 8-bit sculptures and computer glitch graffiti recall italian futurism

considered one of the rising stars of the international street art scene, felipe pantone has been expressing himself through color since he was 12 years old. a self-taught graffiti artist, the argentine-spanish contemporary artist deals with dynamism, transformation, omnipresence, and themes related to present times. most recently, his technicolored vision has taken him to shanghai where his exhibition entitled ‘distance, speed, time, formula’, presents totally new works to mark his first installation in the city.

as a self-described ‘child of the internet era’, pantone‘s influences are apparent. his geometric subjects based on modelling software are reminiscent of the 80s and 90s, referencing the aesthetics of 3D creation. he reproduces these in XXL format or on canvases. these are brought to life through installations that create illusions of optics, resulting in an explosion or an electric shock.

the exhibition highlights the artist’s latest research, capturing pantone’s futuristic style. spanning graffiti, paintings, hanging sculptures and kinetic art, his body of work is reminiscent of italian futurism in the way that they exalt the modern world. a diverse series of vivid artworks boast his signature motifs including computer glitches, 8-bit gradients and pixelated abstractions.

felipe pantone’s approach is to question the current era and its propensity to place new technologies at the center of our daily lives, making us dependent on a superabundance of images and symbols‘, said the gallery.he himself is passionate about the advent of the internet that allows instant access to the entire history of humanity. the problems he addresses are contemporary and universal: movement, the notion of time, saturation, alienation and destruction.’
