photographer ferit kuyas captures chinese cigarettes and their smokers in his series ‘chinese smokers’. while the western world is banning cigarette smoking in more places, china continues to be a smoking nation. as a reference point, 30% of the cigarettes produced in the world are consumed in china. while working on another project in the city of chongqing, china, turkish photographer ferit kuyas was intrigued by the packaging of cigarette in china. he began photographing thrown a way packs and soon began taking portraits of smokers in the street. the series is a testament to cultural differences in a global world.
