what if instead of increasing our efforts to conserve energy we actually endeavored to consume more? what would society and the art produced look like if we embraced consumption as a catalyst for a progressive society? these are some of the questions posed by the current group exhibition at london’s rokeby gallery. the show features artists such as former turner prize nominees mark titchner and liam gillick and challenged them to explore ‘the widest meaning of energy in art and politics’ rather than responding directly to the politics of energy. work exhibited includes a piece by sculptor roger hiorns, a huge light bulb covered in semen, demonstrating our joyous waste.
