antonio monfreda and sergio salerni create an immersive art experience within the walls of galerie gmurzynska’s 1,200 square foot booth at the 2017 EXPO chicago, presented in partnership with the chicago architecture biennial. the italian creative directors come together to organize a set of colorful hanging installations that provide visitors with a sensory experience involving touch, sight, and smell.

galerie gmurzynska’s innovative and immersive open plan booth experience features a selection of works by christo, robert indiana, joan miró, fernand léger, and many more. each artwork comments on the artist’s personal affinity for the city of chicago. throughout this installation, visitors are able to explore galerie gmurzynska’s roster of artists and each artist’s intellectual, creative, and emotional relationship with the city.

galerie gmurzynska’s showcase — curated by antonio monfreda, international editor of cabana magazine, and sergio salerni — emphasizes the current trend of exploring the dialogue between art, design, architecture and public space within the context of chicago — a creative hub for many artists. artists like robert indiana, as showcased in this installation, studied at the art institute of chicago. throughout his career, he made references to his time there and remarked that chicago was one of the most important cities to him.
