‘this is also a show for all who think that contemporary art is shit. they should come and see this shit show. they will be satisfied,’ reads the introduction text at vorm -fellows -attitude, the latest exhibition by vienna-based collective gelitin. curated by francesco stocchi, the series of new, site-specific sculptures at the museum boijmans van beuningen, rotterdam, celebrates the body with a humorous, provocative approach typical of the artists’ work.

from 18 may to 12 august, gelitin takes over the museum’s bodon galleries with monumental sculptures shaped like giant turds to question taboos and negative connotations associated with human defecation. the exhibition involves the active participation of the public with specific costumes of nude male and female bodies that triggers a playful, child-like behavior in approaching the sculptures. vorm -fellows – attitude embodies a unifying attribute of humanity, a social, cultural, economical regulator, while at the same time inquiring over the negative connotation excrement has gained over time.

  • With this thing, I would say we really fell further down the border of extreme disgust. They are actually confirming that contemporary art is sh*t.
To me not all of it is sh*t, but hey, let’s say the truth, lots of people wake up in the morning anda say “I am an artist yeeeeehhhh!!!” with no purpose, no meaning or research, look at all the Maurizio Cattelan’s work which is horrible!

Bravo, bravo, that’s the spirit if you want people to really appreciate art, congrats – obviously I am sarcastic – !!!
