colorful squids by moradavaga spread tentacles around lake

Moradavaga, in collaboration with Blue Dragon Art Company, presents Squid Squad: Family Day, an interactive acoustic installation set along the margins of Zhiqing Lake on the campus of the National Taiwan Sport University. Created for the 2024 Taoyuan Land Art Festival, the installation features three colorful giant squids, symbolizing a typical Taiwanese nuclear family. The squids—one large, one medium, and one small—emerge from the ground with extended tentacles, inviting visitors to engage in playful, sound-based interactions. Visitors can speak and listen through the tentacles connected to the squids’ eyes, offering a family-oriented experience combining art, play, and ecological awareness.

Squid Squad: Family Day turns into illuminated spectacle at night

By day, the installation by Moradavaga connects people of all ages, encouraging family interaction and environmental consciousness. The tactile nature of the work allows participants to engage in a sensory experience, deepening the bond between art and the natural surroundings. Being part of the festival by Zhiqing Lake enhances the interaction, as the setting integrates with the organic flow of the park. At night, Squid Squad: Family Day transforms into an illuminated spectacle, with the Caldaro- and Porto-based studio’s squids glowing like oversized traditional lanterns. This transformation highlights the art piece but also adds a new layer of visual engagement, casting light over the surrounding area and creating a captivating nighttime atmosphere.
