prefer designboom on googlemoscow-based artist, gregory orekhov, presents his latest sculpture titled ‘magic bed’. composed of a fold-out bed made from mirror-polished stainless steel, the nostalgic piece harks back to orekhov’s childhood while evoking the idea of a magical looking glass, an object that reveals a lot about both the viewer and the artist himself.

just like his previous creations, ‘magic bed’ stays true to orekhov‘s artistic language: combining a pure form with a metaphorical image. the artist spent most of his childhood on such a ‘magic bed’ while dreaming of a cozy oasis. that is until he relocated to his father’s art studio at the age of 12. now, this subject of soviet and post-soviet life is a sculptural realization of reflective nostalgia and an idealized look into orekhov’s childhood, whereby viewers can reflect upon their own past.
