london-based florist harriet parry has made a name for herself weaving art and fashion into her craft. guided by ‘detail, colour, texture and composition; with a touch of the unexpected,’ she references both the contemporary and the historical, uniting various worlds through floral design.

parry‘s preference to opt for the more challenging or unconventional briefs has her create floral arrangements for a vogue paris shoot, curate her own exhibition in london and even do the flowers for a salvador dalí-inspired wedding. this approach is particularly evident in her series of flower interpretations, sculptural arrangements that bring to life a series of artworks.

using various blooms she transforms iconic artworks like edvard munch’s ‘the scream’, pablo picasso’s ‘woman in hat (olga)’ and vasily kandinsky’s ‘watercolour no. 14’, into bright and colorful arrays inspired by the shapes and colors of her subjects. her floral interpretations aren’t just limited to paintings though. she also takes on other forms of visual arts including fashion editorials, such as those captured by british fashion photographer tim walker, looks off the runway in vogue, and stills from iconic movies like jacques demy’s 60s drama ‘the umbrellas of cherbourg’.

parry’s love of flowers was is the result of her childhood growing up in the british countryside when she would make flowers for the local village fête. eventually she would study fine art at leeds university before graduating in 2007 and after working as an interior stylist she learnt that floristry was what she really wanted to do.

harriet has since moved to london where she creates flower arrangements for events, installations and fashion shoots, while also running classes and workshops in floristry. in 2018, she collaborated with london’s royal academy to create a time-themed piece for the institution’s annual summer party. one of harriet’s bouquets was also recently pictured in the hands of the queen, at the 500th anniversary of the royal college of physicians.
