sean paris’ infrared photographic exploration across australia
In his photography project Koala Country – Infrared, Sean Paris takes us on a journey around Victoria, Australia, through the lens of a converted DSLR camera that captures infrared light. The photographer presents a look into the area’s historic, quirky, and stylized objects, all bathed in vibrant shades of pink and blue. From abandoned houses to old motels, and even featuring a giant koala and a couple of koi fish sculptures, the series invites viewers to immerse themselves in a surreal visual experience.

exploring the unseen: sean paris’ adventures in koala country
For this series, Sean Paris (find more here) employs a modified DSLR capable of capturing the 590-nanometer spectrum, blending visible and infrared light. This unique lens adds an otherworldly quality to the exploration of surroundings, culture, and societal elements, as the professional camera modification unveils a light spectrum imperceptible to the human eye.
In the Koala Country – Infrared project, Paris embarks on a journey through diverse locations, embracing a nomadic lifestyle by living out of his car to discover his subjects. The thoughtfully curated selection of objects and buildings weaves a visual narrative, capturing the essence of disappearing regional Australian landmarks against the backdrop of relentless modernization.
