ink traces and rotational gestures shape polkadot design’s visual identity for athens epidaurus festival
polkadot design creates 2026 visual identity for the athens epidaurus festival, one of greece’s most important cultural institutions and one of europe’s longest-running festivals.
traces of ink turn performance’s physicality into graphic form
Athens Epidaurus Festival is one of Greece’s most important cultural institutions and one of Europe’s longest-running festivals. For 70 years, it has brought together leading Greek and international artists in theater, music, and dance. This year’s Festival visual identity was created by Polkadot Design. A human gesture, a trace of ink, and a manual process form the basis of a visual language that reflects the physical nature of the performing arts.

Movement makes the poster an open-ended visual experience
The process behind the identity was entirely manual: a rotational gesture leaves a trace of ink, transforming movement into a contemporary visual language. For Polkadot Design Studio, the poster is not a static object, but an invitation to the viewer to move beyond the role of passive observer and actively participate in giving the work its final meaning.
