‘crown of thorns’ exhibit in los angeles, november 2006

like the pop artists of the late 20th century, artist jason hackenwerth transforms common materials and imagery into something new. hackenwerth’s material of choice is balloons. he blows up hundreds of balloons and strings them together in unusual forms to create artwork that resembles an array of strange animals, insects or aliens. he has exhibited his work internationally since graduating in 2003. his works are playful and colourful, but like all balloons they slowly deflate over time added another dimension to his work. hackenwerth now lives in long island city new york.
