set within hong kong‘s edinburgh place, american artist jim campbell’s ‘scattered light’ hovers above the public plaza, forming a luminous and immersive maze for passers-by to experience. using nearly 2,000 LEDs encased in standard light bulbs, campbell has installed a sculptural and structural grid spanning nearly 80 feet, and towering 20 feet overhead. hung in a purposely unordered arrangement, light pulses through the hanging orbs in a seemingly random manner. the effect translates as a shadowy illusion of the figures passing through, blurring the boundaries between the audience and the surrounding urban landscape. the installation is presented by the hong kong arts development council from now until october 1, 2014.
