mexican artist jose davila‘s creative preoccupation in the relationship between space and transience, in terms of architecture, art and sculpture is most exemplified in his series of cut-out works. taking photographs of landmark locales, buildings, and statues, the artist hand-removes the focal point, leaving a white void where a renowned monument should sit. by extracting the famed visuals from their context, the observer is left to interpret the new situation and asked to identify the subject matter without the details and qualities most familiar to them.
