‘love love’ by julien berthier, 2007 (boat, motor, resin)‘love love’ is perhaps one of julien berthier’s more unusual sculptural installations. the floating sculpture is made from a large sailboat that has been modified to appear as if it is capsizing. despite its battered appearance the boat is fully functional and able to move around thanks to a built-in motor. to create the piece a 6.5 meter yacht was cut in half and a new keel was added to allow the boat to remain upright in the sinking position. since its construction berthier has taken the boat out on numerous trips inside harbours like canary wharf in london and in normandy, france.

how many times have people stopped or called the coast guard to render aid when they see this piece of crap art?
Whats the purpose to become so cynical every time thy see like this turn the other way.Which is already a big problem and now you give them yet another excuse.

Your next sculpture should be a school bus filled with children that goes off a cliff and explodes.
Or you could do one of a plane in the side of a building.
What do you do when a good citizen tries to help you. Tell them and the coast guard oh its just a sculpture the joke is on you.

It’s creative. I would have never thought of this. Kind of funny. I would want to rent it for a day, but wouldn’t want to own it. Just to float around and joke with peole who come to save me. But I would be afraid that it will not be stable if wind or storm picks up. Here in Chicago weather can change instantly.
