set above paris’ jardin des tuileries, ‘beautiful tube #3’ by artists lang/baumann (sabina lang and daniel baumann) comprises a white cube with two open sides like a tunnel, installed 15 meters above the ground within the branches of a tree. painted white, the wooden sculpture has been structured to fit snugly into the arboreal landscape without a single nail or screw, pierced laterally by two branches extending through one end, and out the opposing side.

viewed from the ground by passersby the manicured gardens, ‘beautiful tube #3’ seems to be an unreachable platform, a lookout that sharply contrasts the terrain, even though it appears to be an organic outgrowth. the work, presented for this edition of FIAC, also seeks to reflect the theme of artificiality-designed nature in relationship to construction and deconstruction.
