spanish photographer manuel alvarez diestro explores desertic dubai’s skyscrapers in his latest photography series. the visual artist’s latest victim is the monochromatic cityscape that populates the arabian desert. he depicts the city as a glossy mirage within its dry surroundings, playing with light, shadows and the building’s repetitive elements.

the photographer highlights the desert’s earthy tones that are reflected in the human built mega towers. the series gives the skyscrapers an aesthetically pleasing quality in a city where tall buildings and multilane motorways dominate the social fabric. alvarez diestro frames the close-ups in a style that pays a posthumous tribute to photographer michael wolf on his work ‘architecture of density’.
