japanese artist masayoshi matsumoto uses balloons only to create air-filled sculptures of animals, plant life and insects. with a wide selection of colors and textures, such as metallic, opaque and translucent, the self-taught artist recreates various species of the animal kingdom simply by blowing and twisting balloons and without the use of any adhesive materials, markers or other embellishments.

masayoshi matsumoto takes between two to six hours to complete his works, depending on the complexity of the animal or plant. his latex masterpieces take the shape of hedgehogs, parrots, beetles, lilies, and crabs among others, whose intricate details are created entirely and simply out of balloons.
