THE PRADA DOUBLE CLUB MIAMI

scientist and artist carsten höller highlights miami art basel week in a three-night-only collaboration with milan-based arts institution, fondazione pradatitled ‘the prada double club miami’, the piece is set in a 1920s film studio complex, formerly an ice factory, and comprises of an internal club and an outdoor tropical garden. read designboom’s interview with höller here.

 

 

THE REOPENING OF THE BASS MUSEUM

designed by arata isozaki, the bass museum will reopen its doors showcasing four new galleries with the addition of a creativity center boasting two classrooms, a multimedia lab, and more than 6,000 square feet of public space. the tokyo-based architect, also responsible for the museum’s first phase, has been employed as part of the institution’s ten-year initiative to increase space and then grow their holdings of contemporary art.

LOEWE foundation and jonathan anderson chance encounters exhibition series brings together artists from various disciplines in order to explore unexpected conversations. anderson has chosen the works of three artists, presenting their works in ceramic, fabric sculpture and photography at the LOEWE miami design district store. the artists span from the 1930s to the present day and include sara flynn, richard smith and lionel wendt. the store’s design, centered around a monumental 18th century portuguese granary, and represents the brand’s celebration of past, present and future, while providing a resonant setting for the work of these three artists.

 

 

STUDIO DRIFT + BMW AT FAENA HOTEL

the faena hotel will host the flying sculpture ‘franchise freedom’, described as a ‘performative artwork at the interface between technology, science, nature and art’ — a sculpture created by amsterdam-based duo studio drift. it will comprise an autonomous, flying swarm of 300 drones are set to perform on the beach near the faena hotel. the exhibit is hosted/sponsored by PACE gallery, BMW, and faena art. 

 

 

WHITE CUBE IN MIAMI

london-based white cube gallery will present a solo show of artist ibrahim mahama. the installation is titled non – orientable nkansa and will consist of a floor-to-ceiling wall of approximately 2,000 wooden shoeshine boxes. various paintings form the artist will also be exhibited.

‘nuage’ is an organic pergola designed by ronan & erwan bouroullec bringing shade, shelter, seating, and charm to the paseo ponti in the miami design district. sun shines through the steel and colored glass structure that mimics cloud apertures, casting graphic shadows that vibrate with blues and greens like stained-glass windows crossed by the sun in cathedrals. read designboom’s coverage here.

the home sharing site airbnb presents ‘a wild thing’, an interactive installation created for design miami/ in collaboration with belgian design studio muller van severen. guests are invited to be hosted in the space, sit on the furniture, read books, listen to music. each object has been carefully selected and has a great personal significance, as well as furniture the duo has designed and souvenirs they have collected throughout their lives. the installation aims to conjure an understanding of their family stories, daily routines, personal style, and network of friends, creating the essence of home and homecoming in a public space.
