inside the ibiza gran hotel, cirque du soleil founder guy laliberté and world-renowned chefs ferran and albert adrià open ‘heart’ in ibiza, a multi-sensory gastronomic theater that unites food, contemporary and digital art. for the project ‘live art’ — curated by ventana contemporary ibiza — french artist miguel chevalier creates a dialogue within the unique environment of ‘heart’ with two immersive, digital artworks: ‘fractal flowers 2015’ and ‘liquid pixels 2015’.

‘fractal flowers 2015’ is a giant virtual garden that endlessly reveals huge botanical life of different sizes, colors and shapes. the evolving vegetal universe forms virtual seeds that grow, open, and fade away in response to the audience. the graphic, almost mathematical forms of the flowers are all completely unique and their abstraction is never the same. these digital blossoms create an enigmatic dialogue with the visitors: they bow in order to welcome the public into the virtual garden, show off their colors and shapes, and finally disappear out of sight like a cloud becoming progressively blurred.

‘liquid pixels 2015’ is a generative and interactive virtual-reality installation that bears a skin of colorful pixels that evolve autonomously. paying homage to the 1950s-style painting of jackson pollock, sam francis, pierre soulages and luis feito, the work comes out of the canvas and merges with the screen, forming a light painting in perpetual motion.

this warm colorful universe reminds viewers of the ibizan sea and sunset, evolving in real time and immersing those nearby in a surreal world situated between dream and magic. the cirque du soleil performers’ movements create a trail of color, which mix and blend with the ‘painting’ before slowly fading away. during certain parts of the night, live music interacts with the piece, furthering the dynamism of the image.
