the creative studio moment factory of montreal, quebec, canada has developed an interactive multimedia installation for one of the waiting rooms of montreal’s CHU hôpital ste-justine for children to provide a more pleasant environment for visiting families and young patients. ‘interactive musical wall’ is formed from a system of motion sensors, light projectors and a blackened wall upon which to actualize the work. the piece requires feedback from the viewer and as the individual  engages with the artwork, the grazing of his or her fingers over the rainbow plane upon the wall produces colorful lines and shapes accompanied by harmonious musical notes. ‘interactive musical wall’ has been created by moment factory to stimulate the imaginations of hôpital ste-justine’s young patients. the permanent installation is part of ‘la maison de la vie’ or ‘house of life’ to make hospital visits more relaxed for visitors to the medical facility.

the user must move his or her hand along the gradually rainbowed line spanning a small section of the painted-black wall

when an individual interacts with the multimedia environment and completes a movement of their hand within the projection of light, the shape is made into a more solid shape by the program

the project is intended to stimulate the imaginations of young patients

a young resident of hôpital ste-justine produces lines and music the interactive musical wall

motion sensors put in place around the projected wall help the user to draw with light upon the surface

the permanent installation is a part of ‘la maison de la vie’ to make trips to the hospital more enjoyable
