In recent years, societal perspectives on nature have undergone a significant transformation, spurred by environmental awareness campaigns and a collective pursuit of a higher quality of life. Monsieur Plant, through his installations, captures symbols of contemporary society, infusing them with a natural and ethical twist. His latest exhibition, Think Nature, immerses audiences in an offbeat, plant-centric journey filled with enchanting artworks that spotlight the issue of deforestation. Upon entering the Chateau de Seneffe in Belgium, visitors are greeted by the Welcome installation adorning the facade. A character appears to dive into a wall of plant moss, offering a glimpse into the immersive experience that lies ahead, where various interactive installations invite participants to engage with nature and explore societal themes.

think nature plants immersive installations across the museum

French artist Monsieur Plant addresses the pressing issue of deforestation through thought-provoking works such as Magic Tree and Human Tree. Visitors are prompted to envision themselves in the position of a felled tree, contemplating the impact of human actions on the environment. Ahead, The Big Dive presents a large pot overflowing with earth, accompanied by a symbolic shovel, confronting the pervasive desire for excess in our society.

Throughout the exhibition, familiar characters emerge, relaxing in a vast pile of moss cascading from the Chateau chimney in the Immersion installation or succumbing to the forces of nature in Vortex. These installations underscore the rejuvenating effects of a metaphorical ‘bath in nature.’ Denouncing the excesses of consumerism, Overconsumption features the central character at the head of the plant, practicing magic with antique goldsmith utensils that come straight from the museum’s collection. In a haunted room, Ghost King portrays the same character as a ghost draped in a crown of plant moss, symbolizing the avoidance of environmental responsibilities.

Throughout the exhibition, the ambiance is complemented by a soothing soundtrack of nature, creating an illusion of strolling through a garden. Think Nature positions the museum at the heart of current ethical concerns while highlighting links with the past. The exhibition will be open to visitors until September 1, 2024, at Belgium’s Chateau de Seneffe.
