an intangible, ethereal structure redefines the space
authos.ch in collaboration with the designer stella speziali present an immersive spatial intervention at the zurich design biennale 2021. the interactive installation dubbed nebolosus, invites visitors to wander in a boundless experience. the designers combined mist and augmented reality to form this intangible, ephemeral pavilion that redefines the space.

the augmented reality transforms the notion of space
located in the old botanical garden in the center of zurich, its haze floats gently above more than 50 square meters of lush vegetation. authos.ch and stella speziali sough to generate a form that is entirely dependent on the time and weather conditions of the present moment, offering a unique experience to each visitor. during the day, soft clouds of vapor are in constant motion, while in the late hours, the space is transformed into a digital phenomenon.
the ethereal structure reminds people of the impossibility of taking control over the climate as well as its fragile equilibrium. apart from this function, the unpredictability of nebolosus makes for a singular augmented-reality experience. when dark, a projection mapping enhances the untouchable essence, while a matrix of dazzling lines and angles reacts to visitors’ movements.
