nicolas sassoon: animated GIF style computer art

cosmos collaborative project with risto bimbiloski ast scope miami, november 2010

the work of vancouver-based french artist nicolas sassoon makes use of computer-based aesthetics to generate fantasized visions of architectures, landscapes and domestic environments to bring viewers into a trance. his work benefits from stylized pseudo-retro aesthetics, characterized by bright colors, moving patterns, and bitmap quality. the undulating pixels, through their disorienting movement, may create in viewers a sense of anxiety, a concern that their computer screens might have stopped working.

see an interview with the artist here.

  • WOW!

    Ben says:
  • Terrible !!! Love it !

    Bull says:
  • Please, @desingboom respect the real size of each different Sassoon’s artworks, they should be featured with the same dimensions as you can see on his site . Most of the pieces here featured are smaller than your post width size, so do it well, please. It would be a nicer presentation.
Digital artworks, specially indexed color based files must be featured respecting the artist’s size decision, if you rescale them, you will create another different looks, creating a confusion between the viewer and the final real piece.

Btw, you could mention as well Nicholas is member of the well known digital art based collective Computers Club where you can find a bunch of his work too,

  • dear gif,

we appreciate your comment. we have taken what you said into consideration and have put some of the images back to their original size.

however, for the sake of consistency, we could not change all the images since it would alter the layout. changing the sizes from article to article can be jarring for our readers. we have provided links for those who are interested in seeing more of the artist’s work.

thank you for your interest and feedback.
