individuals, human and animal alike, are bound to gather spontaneously and sporadically in response to an event or environmental stimuli. this tendency of gregariousness is the subject of paris-based studio millimètre’s, ‘nuées’. triggered by a programmed matrix of fans, thousands of particles spontaneously organize, dancing and following the flow of air. air becomes visible using small, black dots as markers. 

glass houses thousands of small particles that shift sporadically 

‘nuées’ visualizes a concept typically considered in the domain of immateriality. the installation is a participant in the ‘form follows information’ exhibit–curated by studio GGSV–at biennale international saint-etienne design 2015.
