sun yuan and peng yu are two young chinese artists working collaboratively in beijing. they are known for their controversial works which make use of odd materials like human fat tissue and live animals. their artwork deals with issues of life, death and the human condition in surreal and sometimes confrontational ways. ‘old persons home’ is a 2007 piece by the duo which uses 13 life-like sculptures sitting in 13 electric wheelchairs. the 13 sculptures have been made to look eerily like elderly versions of today’s world leaders. the characters all roll around in their wheels chairs, crashing into each other randomly.
