models make a fashion pilgrimage to hand-painted salvation mountain

paper magazine‘s march 2015 fashion editorial takes a journey to salvation mountain, the monumental work by artist leonard knight. located in the lower desert of southern california, the site has been intricately painted in a spectrum of vibrant hues that canvas designs and motifs made of local adobe clay. the project promotes the reoccurring theme of ‘love’ throughout, with flowers, trees, hearts, suns, birds, and other fascinating objects aiming to serve a powerful message of peace.

los angeles-based JUCO studio — the collaborative work of photographers julia galdo and cody cloud — take model nora vai to the creative wonderland for the fashion shoot, with fashion styling mimicking the kaleidoscopic backdrop. the surreal shoot sheds light on this hidden art work through the union of couture, craftsmanship and creativity.
