official posters for Paris 2024 olympics unveiled

On the occasion of the upcoming Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, scheduled for the summer of 2024, illustrator Ugo Gattoni has crafted a vibrant and detailed fresco to celebrate the events. Invited by the Organizing Committee of the Summer Games, the artist has meticulously created an abundant and joyful universe, rich in detail and micro-stories, centered around the iconic Eiffel Tower and the Stade de France, symbolic landmarks of Paris. After more than 2,000 hours of dedicated work, Gattoni’s final illustration manifests as two distinct posters, each encapsulating the spirit of Olympism and Paralympism, respectively.

Ugo Gattoni creates detailed layers of narratives

The Paris 2024 (find more here) posters by Ugo Gattoni (find more here) offer a lively visual experience, filled with intricate details. Through the artist’s perspective, the posters reveal layers of narratives – from a broad overview to hidden stories upon closer inspection, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the vibrant scenes. The artwork transforms Paris into a fantastical, sports-centric cityscape where iconic landmarks blend with athletic energy. Departing from tradition, Paris 2024 presents a single fresco integrating diverse elements and symbols synonymous with the Games, including the iconic Olympic Rings, mascots, and landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Seine.

In addition, many sports are represented in the illustrations, particularly the four new sports added by Paris 2024 to its program (breaking, sport climbing, skateboarding and surfing). Drawing inspiration from Art Deco influences, the posters bridge the historical legacy of past Olympic Games in Paris with the excitement of the upcoming Games, creating a joyful celebration of sport and culture.

a timeless city-stadium open to the world

‘When I was asked to design the Iconic Posters for Paris 2024, I immediately imagined a city-stadium open to the world, a suspended time in which you can wander through microcosms where Parisian monuments and sporting disciplines joyfully coexist,’ shares Ugo Gattoni. ‘For me, this design has to be timeless. It is based on the golden ratio and has a strong academic foundation with a lot of architecture. Its originality lies in its surreal and utopian aspect, both in its composition and in the thousands of details that feature in it.’

The posters are a diptych intertwining Olympism and Paralympism. For the first time in the history of the Summer Games, the Olympic Poster and the Paralympic Poster have been designed together: both can function independently but can also be brought together to form a single, seamless composition that tells the wider story of the Paris 2024 project.
