people’s architecture office
(PAO) has installed a series of massive metallic objects within the K11 art mall in hong kong.
‘golden bubbles’ reflects and magnifies the movement of visitors as they meander above, below and around the installation. the oversized inflatables stretch through the shopping center’s light-filled atrium, weaving between multiple levels and escalators, and forming interactive pods on the ground level.

the golden hue of the bubbles seeks to symbolically represent hong kong’s strength as a global financial capital. the objects simultaneously become curved mirrors that distort the perception of space by warping the surroundings into a single field of view. visitors to K11 are asked to look beyond the orbs’ shimmering metallic skin to discover a hollow space hidden within. PAO invites viewers to peer into these inflated objects and explore a kaleidoscope-like interior lined with reflective surfaces and filled with ‘fleeting images of our projected desires.’
