pokémoji keyboard brings emoticon pokémon to your fingertips

with the momentous arrival of pokémon on our smartphones and in pop culture, two french designers have proposed a keyboard of emoticons that would allow people to communicate using ‘pokémoji’. the flattened icons, rendered in a simple color palette and illustrated without three-dimensional effects, bring your favorite comic characters to your fingertips.

the cast of characters includes normal and evolved species

modeled after the pokémon shuffle game set, the emojis allow users to select a species and type it into a text message — just as they would with the standard set of emoticons currently available. designers kévin magalhaes and laureen minet propose a cast of characters that includes favorite critters like ‘charmander’ and ‘pikachu’, alongside evolved generations like ‘venusaur’ and ‘blastoise’. colored poké balls are also included in the set.

minet and magalhaes have also envisioned an app called ‘pokémoji+’ that would enable users to create custom character wallpapers for their smartphones and apple watches.
