following on the heels of alex chinneck’s reality-distorting intervention and charles pétillon’s invasion of 100,000 giant white balloons, local design agency sculptivate plans to wrap 32,000 square feet of mirrors around covent garden‘s eastern façade. the installation ‘reflect london’ will invite visitors and passersby to view the landscape through ever-changing and endless perspectives during its eight-month residence. the building’s nineteenth century classical architecture will collide with modern minimalism in a kaleidoscopic tableau of abstract geometries, color and light refracted from the mirrored sheets — the angles of which will be adjusted as time passes.

while offering viewers a moment of reflection and contemplation within the busy city, the 67 mirrors used will simultaneously conceal essential building works as the landmark undergoes its latest transformation. ‘the refurbishment of the market building heralds a new era for covent garden so we wanted to take a moment to reflect, and encourage our visitors to do the same,’ says beverly churchill, creative director of covent garden. ‘we like to surprise so, rather than opt for traditional hoardings, we’ve created something more visually arresting for our visitors to discover.’
