in brazil, ‘terrão’ (earthen terraces or fields) can be found throughout the urban landscape, offering an oasis in which inhabitants living on the outskirts of the city can escape and engage in the practice of soccer; offering a breath of fresh air from their daily lives. however, these small pieces of land are becoming increasingly rare as a result of property speculation and land occupation, but their steadfast existence despite social and political difficulties, is a testament to the brazilians’ spirit of resilience and their love for the game.
