a vibrant installation of sculptural symbolic faces

lebanese designer richard yasmine unveils ‘il viso del mondo’, a digital/crypto, social/urban installation comprised of several off-the-scale sculptures representing the faces of different women. drawing influence by pop culture aesthetics, the vibrant pieces interpret different races, while symbolizing sensitivity, emotions, supportiveness, warmth, empathy, affection, tenderness, devotion, and understanding. ‘il viso del mondo’ will be a highlighted presentation by 5vie at milan design week 2021, along with yasmine’s previous projects ‘after ago’ and ‘flowing fragment’.

the power of the face as a therapeutic gate

the installation by richard yasmine is heavily inspired by pop culture, its famous icons, and vivid colors. the sculptural faces are made of reflective convex, and protruding surfaces in high polished coated stainless steel finishing, while waterproof synthetic fibers serve as the hair.  all intricate pieces are presented on top of a ‘collerette’ type platform. the shiny exterior of the works reflects everything around them, from landscapes, lights, and definitely, the people moving nearby. the surface invites visitors to observe their own reflection as an interactive experience, converting the viewer into ‘the face of the world’ – ‘il viso del mondo’.

the project explores the power of the face and its importance as the greatest human organ of emotion. ‘our ‘faces’ are extraordinary social instruments, dynamic canvases or communication screens on which emotions are drawn intensely,’ richard yasmine shares. for the artist, ‘il viso del mondo’ serves as a medium to connect with our inner soul, while being persistent in self-awareness and accountability, contemplating yet listening to our soul’s desire. ‘eventually, with this approach or therapy, we urge the mind to regenerate it self-confidence along with its soul, ego, and cognitive behaviour,’ yasmine says.
